IELTS is an international English language testing system that evaluates your English on the basis of receptive and productive skills. The receptive skills being listening and reading whereas productive skills being writing and speaking. This exam is paper as well as Computer based.You can choose which one to opt for as per your convenience.

IELTS exam has to be taken for the purpose of demonstrating your English for Visa purposes if you are aiming to move to an English speaking country for the purpose of permanent residentship . job or studies.

These are certain suggestion to follow for the exam day:

• Arrive well in the – Know the location of the test a couple of days prior to the exam and make sure you reach before time as you will not be permitted to take the exam if you are late.
• The mobile phones or other electronic devices will not be allowed in the examination hall. Not even your watch. The only things allowed on the desk will be your pen, pencil, eraser and your ID

Listening is the first test of IELTS followed by Reading and Writing .The IELTS listening test is same for both general and academic tests. In paper based test , the duration is 40 minutes out of which , the audio plays for 30 minutes and then you have 10 minutes to transfer the answers from the question paper to the answer sheet, which will be provided to you. Whereas , In computer based test , the answers are written on the screen directly and hence , no extra time to transfer is provided , however you get 2 minutes to check your work at the end.

There are four sections in listening test which are in order of difficulty which means the first section will be the easiest where are the last one the most difficult

• There are in all 40 question which are worth 1 mark each. There is no negative marking in case of a wrong answer
• You are supposed to get a least 23 to 24 correct answer to get band score of 6 and at least 32 to score 7 bands ad 35 to 36 in case of 8 band score
• You get to hear the listening audio only once therefore, make sure that you have done a lot of practice before you take this test to get a hang of the accent.

Reading is the 2nd test of IELTS, preceded by listening and followed by writing

The duration of the test is 60 minutes which is 1 hour in length. The reading test is different for Academic and General tests. Both tests have 40 questions which need to be answered based upon the comprehension of the passages that you get jn your test. There will be 3 sections in academic as well as General training test.

• The Academic reading test will have 1 long passage in each section. based upon which
  you need to answer the questions. The difficulty level of Academic test is higher than the General one. On the Other hand, General reading test will have one or more passages each section that need to be comprehended to answer the questions In General test .these three sections are in order of difficulty , That means the first section Will be the easiest and the last the most difficult.

Speaking is a one on one interaction between the examiner and the candidates speaking test is taken within the span of 7 days before or after listening reading writing test the allotted time is 11 to 14 minutes. There are three parts in speaking .part 1 has approximately 10 to 12 questions unfamiliar topics , such as – which is your favourite food , what do you usually do in the evwnings etc , which you can answer in 2 to 3 sentences .

an individual speaking round when you will be given a topic uncertain prompts. The candidate will be given one minute to prepare and 2 minutes is the allocated time to speak on this topic.It is not necessary to follow the prompts on the cue card but it’s always recommended to use them as they surely help in expanding the talk on the other hand part 3 is a discussion round and around 5 to 6 questions questions will be asked by the examiner on the topic of part 2.in Part 3 , more detailed responses are sought and the answers should to be of 4 to 5 sentences. There will be no choice in the questions instead the candidates must speak on the topic and the questions that are asked You can surely ask the examiner to repeat the question in case you don’t understand. What’s try and not do this frequently.

General test Task-I has a letter that should to be completed in 20 minutes. The minimum word limit is 150 and there is no maximum word
limit.

Writing is the third section of the IELTS exam, followed by Listening and Reading. in all 60 minutes allotted for the entire writing section that has Task -1 and Task – 2. task -1 is completely different for academic and Genral both whereas, Task-2 has an essay in both General and Academic tests. Tast- 1 has to be finished in 20 minutes and Task – 2 in 40 Minutes

• A letter topic is given to the student along with three pointers or prompts which are the task that should be addressed in usually different paragraphs.

Writing Task-2 is an essay in both General and Academic tests. although the structure and format are the same but the topics are simpler in General test as compared to academic. Total 60 minutes are allotted for writing and it is recommended that task 2 should be finished in 40 minutes and 20 minutes should be given to task 1.
The minimum word limit is 250. Although there is no upper limit to it but still it is recommended that one should write near about 280 to 290 words for the simple reason that one must concentrate on the quality of writing and aspects such as vocabulary, cohesive devices structure etc. than on the length of the essay.
